Legal Consultant
The Attorney-General’s Chambers is seeking to recruit a suitably qualified individual to fill the post of Legal Consultant to its Backlog Files Project on contractual basis. Salary range: $3,420,191-$4,065,532 per annum and any allowance(s) attached to the post.
Under the general direction of the Deputy Solicitor-General – General Legal Advice Division and with oversight from the Solicitor-General, the Legal Consultant provides legal expertise to support the work of the General Legal Advice
Division of the Attorney-General’s Chambers in clearing backlog of files.
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREA
• Supervise a team of legal officers in processing of files (e.g., motor vehicle accidents, personal injuries, negotiation of settlements) and drafting of Opinions regarding liability/settlement and a range of other legal issues.
• Supervise the preparation and rendering of sundry legal opinions on a range of issues to Ministries.
• Prepare detailed methodology and work plan to deliver project targets.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
• Advanced knowledge of Jamaican laws and legal system
• Sound analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
• Excellent time management skills
• Excellent people and team/building skills
• Proficiency in using the Microsoft Office Suite.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor of Laws Degree;
• Legal Education Certificate;
• At least five years’ experience working in a legal setting, providing legal advice to government and/or conducting civil litigation;
• Experience working in the area of project management or project management training would be an asset.
